| Tooth Whitening
Many of our patients are choosing to have their teeth
whitened.
The tooth whitening process is a successful and simple
method of lightening the colour of your teeth.
Teeth usually yellow with age but drinking tea, coffee,
red wine and colas all speed up this process. Smoking and
other staining agents will also contribute to darkening
of the teeth. The whitening technique removes the staining
agent that has penetrated deep within the tooth and is
most effective on mildly discoloured teeth. However, the
darker teeth can also be successfully lightened in colour
although the process may take a little longer. The degree
of whiteness achieved will vary from patient to patient
and with the type of bleaching process chosen. Your dentist
can advise upon the suitability of treatment based upon
your tooth and gum condition. Those patients with very
dark teeth, or those wishing to have the greatest improvement
in whiteness may benefit from Deep Bleaching™ - a
combination of Home Whitening and Surgery Whitening.
Home Whitening
Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth to
custom-make a close fitting mouth tray for you. The bleaching
trays are created with areas to hold a reservoir of bleaching
agent against the teeth. As the bleaching tray is light
weight you can wear it comfortably while you are awake
or asleep. Along with the bleaching tray you will receive
a whitening gel which is placed in the bleaching
tray which you then wear while asleep, but can also be
worn for short periods during the day. Results are
normally seen within 2-3 days with the full effect achieved
after 21 days.
In-Surgery Power Whitening
Your teeth can be lightened immediately
using this technique which is conducted at the practice
and involves a bleaching solution being applied to your
teeth which is activated chemically or by light. The activation
creates a small amount of heat which starts the bleaching
process, making the teeth lighter. The process takes approximately
one hour and results are usually seen in one appointment. |
