In addition to our cosmetic dentistry options we offer Botox and Restylane for facial enhancement. These techniques are highly popular methods of softening expression lines and helping the face look refreshed.The treatments are effective and can be used to aesthetically compliment many dental procedures where cosmetic improvement is important, or can be performed as separate procedures.
Dentists at our practice can offer professional consultations and treatments to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. Our dentists have expert knowledge of head and neck anatomy and physiology together with training in the use of cosmetic treatments, which can subtly enhance your appearance and help you look younger.

Wrinkles and facial lines result from ageing, muscle activity (and over-activity) and your genetic predisposition. In addition, excessive sun exposure, alcohol consumption, emotional and hormonal influences and smoking can also increase the likelihood of wrinkles. Whilst you may be able to reduce or control some of the factors associated with wrinkle formation you cannot influence all factors and we all develop some wrinkles as we age.

Botulinum (Botox or Dysport)

Botulinum is a substance that is produced by a bacteria; it is then highly refined, purified, diluted and used in therapeutic doses. Botulinum is administered by injecting it into a specific facial muscle where it acts as a muscle relaxant.
Botulinum is most effective in improving lines or wrinkles due to facial expressions; for example frown lines on the forehead and between the eyebrows and crows feet.
In most cases the treatment will take between 10-20 minutes and effects begin to appear within 2-3 days, although the full may not be visible for up to 10 days. Initially the improvement that you will receive from this treatment will last from 3-6 months. You will notice a gradual fading effect and at this stage you can return for another treatment if you want to. With repeated treatments, the effect lasts longer.
In a small number of patients there may be some localised bruising slight swelling or redness at the site of the injection. This usually disappears very quickly. A temporary drooping eyelid has also occurred in some patients. Botulinum has been used in thousands of patients over the last 15 years. It has an excellent safety profile and there have been no serious side-effects reported in association with its use.

Dermal fillers - Restylane®

With Restylane® you can have a natural beauty lift with the body’s own material. Restylane® is a crystal- clear, non animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural substance, called hyaluronic acid. The gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous and produces a long- lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to your skin.
Restylane® is available in four tissue-tailored variants, each specially designed for a particular purpose and effect such as smoothing out tiny lines, shaping facial contours or sculpting lips to perfection. To achieve the optimal result we will choose the product or combination that best matches your skin and personal needs.
Treatment takes between 20-30 minutes, and the results are seen immediately. Occasionally local anaesthetic may be required- this will be discussed at the consultation appointment.
A Restylane® treatment is long lasting but not permanent. This means that you always have the option to assess your looks. With Restylane®, you will always have the option of continuing or changing the combination of treatments. The length of time a treatment maintains its effect is very individual and depends on many factors, but most patients find the effects last 6-12 months.
Patients may experience some redness, swelling, itching, bruising and tenderness at the injection site, which typically resolve spontaneously a few days after the injections. Restylane® is a safe product, made of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in the body. When Restylane® breaks down it turns into water and carbon dioxide and disappears without leaving any trace in your body.
